1965 Chevrolet Stepside Pickup Restoration
At Poor Mans Restoration, you can purchase a project vehicle at any stage of completion. We recently delivered a 1949 Chevrolet cab to a customer in Florida. We will probably never see it again as the customer has the means and experience to complete the project on his own. In fact, while there, we had the opportunity to see some of his previous projects including a 1969 Chevelle SS.
This photo gallery is of a 1965 Chevrolet Stepside pickup purchased from Poor Mans Restoration soon after it arrived. Glen had put tires and a battery in the vehicle and had it running when it was purchased.
The customer, Terry, is a friend and Glen delivered it to his shop. Terry has no plan, no budget and only a bit of experience from his drag racing days in the 60’s and 70’s. Terry plans on doing what he can, when he can, as he can. Then the truck will return to Poor Mans Restoration for work Terry cannot or will not do.
Here’s the photos:
- An example of tough decisions to be made during a restoration project. Really did not know they used string as hose clamps?
- Take a closer look. Not only does the string serve as a hose clamp, it has double duty supporting the gas line.
- Really tough decision. Do we replace this original string hose clamp/ fuel line support or not?
- No telling what this truck went through in its lifetime. Did not know the firewall was this color. It was black before cleaning.
- Left rear fender after water blasting. No less than 1/2″ of bondo.
- Most of the bed is pretty much gone but Terry wants to try to use what is left.
- Right rear fender after cleaning. Looks like it was at one time painted gold. Or is it a replacement?
- Gonna get it cranked and moved back a bit.
